Fire, or where I learn candles can be a dangerous thing.

I was getting ready to go to the YMCA tonight to work out. I was changing clothes, and I had a candle burning on our dresser.

Somehow — likely me moving around — the big teddy bear on the dresser fall over, onto the candle and burst into flames. They feel soft, but apparently they’re still plastic. I grabbed the not-on-fire portion of said bear, flung it into the bathroom (with the tile floor), grabbed my nice thick towel and slammed it down over the molten plastic/candle/stuffing fire that was simmering on my dresser.

I didn’t panic, just evaluated the amount of flame, and the fact my towel would more than smother it.

step 1) fire is out.

step 2) call the wife

step 3) take down smoke alarm

step 4) realize that melted plastic is now all over the granite topped dresser (glad for the granite, saved the furniture), but the sink, towel, rug, vanity, wall and floor are all covered in molten plastic (shouldn’t have tossed the bear so willy-nilly).

step 5) spend an hour scraping burnt plastic off all the surfaces you can reach, toss bear, towel, rug, candel and long necked candle lighter from the dresser.

step 6) Spend the rest of the evening full of crankitude, but damn glad I didn’t burn the house down.

step 7) wish you’d taken pictures to put on the internet. :)

Geez!
