Black Blade Blues: one week and counting
My books launches in exactly one week. I can’t tell you how excited I am. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m a pretty stoic guy, but man, this is freaking amazing!
I’ve turned in the next book, and the brain is already churning on book 3.
I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was twelve years old. Back then, I was writing poetry and short stories. I didn’t tackle my first novel until I was fourteen. It was a collaboration with my good friend, Allen Howell. He moved away that next summer and took our unfinished manuscript with him. It took me another twenty-five years before I’d finish a novel.
Now, one of them will be on the book shelves and ethernets of your favorite book store, all over the English speaking world. It’s humbling and exhilarating.
To mark this auspicious occasion, I’m doing a give-away.
Post here, telling me why you want a copy of my novel (leave a good email address when you post).
On Sunday of next week, I’ll do a random drawing and the lucky winner will receive an autographed copy of the ARC (advanced reading copy) of Black Blade Blues. Not a lot of those out there. Could end up being a nice collectors item, or prop up that uneven coffee table you’ve been struggling with all these years.
Since this is cross-posted I want to be clear that to enter, you need to post on my blog: (www.japitts.net)
Hope to see some or all of you at one of my three signings.
April 27th, 7pm. UW Bookstore in the University District, Seattle, WA
May 1st, 2pm. Barnes & Noble at Crossroads mall in Bellevue, WA
May 6th, 7pm. Powells Books, Beaverton, Oregon

Here’s why I want a signed copy of the ARC:
My collection of J. A. Pitts memorabilia would get off to a fantastic start if only I have a signed copy of the ARC of the very first novel. I mean, in years to come, people will know that I was a J. A. Pitts fan before being a J. A. Pitts fan was cool. It’ll be like having a signed ARC of Stephen King’s Carrie, or J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter.

An ARC of Black Blade Blues would be a great prize and Allan is right–now is the time to stockpile your early stuff. I suspect all those future J.A. Pitts scholars will want to compare the ARC to the final copy and inspect them for textual differences!

I want an autographed copy of the ARC for Black Blade Blues because it would be in poor form to go to your house and take one. I should probably obtain it through socially acceptable methods.
Very excited for it’s release next week!

I would like an autographed copy of the ARC so that i can love it and hug it and squeeze it and call it george.

Saw the cover on a blog and thought it looked awesome, looked up the novel on amazon and thought the synopsis sounded even better and finally I landed here and found a contest. Great timing
I’m absolutely determined to read this book, but if I should win this, I’d be very grateful.
Do you know something about the amazon/kindle vs Tor situation and if there’s a chance I’d be able to read this book on kindle sometimes soon?
Thank you very much,
Monika

Monika,
Welcome to my site. Unfortunately, I have no say in the matter, and no real information when/if my book will be available on Kindle.

Thank you.

I do not want an ARC of your novel. Why, you ask? Because I want the pleasure of walking into a bookstore, picking it up off the shelf, and plunking down money for it while casually saying to the cashier, “Yeah, I know the author. Close personal friend.”
But then, of course, you have to autograph it.

Well, than you shan’t be in the contest.
Hoping I’ll see you at one of the signings, perhaps.
Thanks.

@Monika: Last time I looked at the book’s information on Amazon.com, I noted that it appears to be available for pre-sale on Kindle (due for delivery on Tuesday, April 27th).
