Yeah, August 7th. Not sure I'll be able to make it, since work has been so very much out-of-control.

Mike,

Glad you visited the site. I can't tell you how much Rush has helped me. Right now, I'm working killer hours at work. No real personal time, but I carry my i-pod with me everywhere to get some music into my day.

Tonight, I believe it will be Snakes and Arrows.

Oh, and I have the new Rush documentary on my desk, waiting for the moment I'm done with edits on Honeyed Words.

Cool post! I just stumbled over here when I saw a link to this post on Twitter, drawn by the title alone, and not expecting anything about Rush.

I've been very inspired by Rush as well, not just as a writer but creatively in general. I love their uncompromising approach, and persistence despite the dismissal of the critics. You really must check out the new Rush documentary if you haven't seen it already.

That settles it... tonight I'm putting side 2 of Moving Pictures on the headphones, then maybe "La Villa Strangiato" and side 1 of 2112.

Totally understand. I love Bravado. So much, that's my handle on Livejournal. :) Bravado111, since the original was taken.

I know people who can't write with music on, needing total silence, but I find it much easier to write with music playing. It is such an integral part of my creative process.

As a huge Rush geek (and a writer) I cannot help but identify with this entry.

I've been a Rush fan since my teens, and when Roll the Bones came out, I was in my early 20's and on my way to my mid-20's, working a bookstore job I hated, and struggling to write publishable short stories. I remember a line from "Bravado" that never failed to put a little steel in my back and give me encouragement: "And if the love remains, though everything is lost/We will pay the price, though we will not count the cost."

The right words at the right time (with killer drums and bass and guitar) are pure magic.

Hey, and right now I'm listening to "Xanadu." That works, too!
