Cleric Journal: Day One

Me and the mule made great time today. I took Brother Durham’s advice and headed straight into the heart of the Blackwater. He proved correct that while the humidity and the black flies have proved a nuisance, I do feel closer to my ever moist deity, Semaunya (may her offspring grow strong).

Thank him for me, will you. Not sure how I will get this letter to you, so I will just hold on to it for now. Perhaps I can find a local of the faith soon. I am confident that they will carry my missives back to you for the pleasure of serving the great one.

I’ve seen several varieties of snakes, toads and some form of log with teeth, but my overall favorite is the giant bats that come out at sunset to eat their body weight in biting flies. Biting flies are the worst.

I know this is only my first day away from the monastery, but I feel like a great weight has been lifted from me. I have the whole world of possibilities ahead of me.  I especially look forward to gaining enough experience to make you proud. It is such a relief after so many years of worrying and dread.

Oh, before I forget, I may have left the door to the lower levels open again. I don’t think I did, but if it rains soon, we could flood the stores again, and likely weaken the foundation more.  After what happened to the east tower, we can’t be too careful. I’m sure it will be fine.
